What is resilience and
why is it important ?
Taking care of ourselves will only help us to take better care of others.
Burnout can be prevented or reversed through cultivating resilience.
Obviously burn out can happen with all professions – but researches show – there are higher chances amongst professions linked to social services and helping professions. The burn out process can be reversed, the intervention done at any stage can lead to reaching previous stages. Should there be no effective interfering happen, it can cause job leaving or in severe case it can lead to addictions – alcoholism or drugs.
Resilience can help us Werner and Smith (1982) define resilience as the ability to reduce the impact of external stressors and mitigate internal vulnerability.
When we are able to take action for ourselves, we are stronger and more resilient in the face of stressful adversity.
Helping professionals, youth workers, social workers are „silent heroes” working amongst difficult situations for the benefit of the youth – often their work does not end after 8 hours, but they have to balance their personal-work life amongst the unusually demanding needs of their clients, which increases the risk of burnout. With offering thematic workshops of well-being we give recognition of their work and the importance of the work they deliver (service) for young and adult clients.

National and natural reserve walk to Szentkút
“This holy place and the beauty of the surrounding Cserhát hills encourage reconciliation with God, people, and ourselves. The Sacrament of Reconciliation gives life as water does according to the psalmist. Returning home, the reconciled pilgrim can give thanks to the Lord, and be more patient with their environment; in other words, they can become better people. “

Mindful Self-Compassion - being a good friend to yourself
by: Peter Hofmann - Limina from Austria
Purpose:
People in care professions or roles often have a big heart and are very compassionate with others. It is not so common that the same people are compassionate towards themselves – many are even harsh with themselves in case of mistakes or not fulfilling self-expectations. On the long run this will drain your capacity to be compassionate with others. Mindful Self-Compassion, following the approach of Chris Germer and Kristin Neff, offers exercises and ways to develop an attitude of being a friend also to yourself and in this way be more sustainable with your compassion resources.

INTRO:
We walk a fine line in our life, we can do a lot of things on our own, but in a lot of cases we need to work together with others and trust them. This activity can be a nice metaphor of doing your task, but depending on the others as well. Communicating your needs is also a very important part of this activity.
Glass Half full - Improvisation
by: Gergő Kiss - Grund Theatre and Egyesek Youth Association from Hungary
Purpose:
Improvisation is a collaborative art form. The way how it approaches collaboration is through positive attitude, seeing and spotting opportunities in the partner. Improvisers are open and curious about their scene partners and perceive them as co-creators. As Keith Johnstone says “The improviser has to understand that his first skill lies in releasing his partner’s imagination”. During the workshop we will explore how to release a partner’s imagination, and experience how this “glass half full” attitude can build resilience.

The goal is to slow down and tunne with nature rhytmns to deepen our connection and relationship to enlarge how we value and care for nature, us and others, in a holistic and compassionative way, that can motivate us to move towards action from within. WHEN THE BODY SHOUTS? - sculpting
by: Susana Alves - Lugarespecifico from Portugal
Heartland workshop and easy-to-use-tool
Purpose:
- Body and self awareness
INTRO:
What is your body telling you? When living a stressed lifestyle, we can easily forget to pay attention to our own bodies. This activity is both meditative and artistic, as it gives us a chance to look into ourselves, express and heal through art as a mediator. It also develops the ability to self-help and heal by the visualization and materialization of body sensations. All of this while creating a collective art piece. “ The most powerful art in life is to transform pain into a healing talisman. A butterfly is reborn, blossomed into a colorful party! “ Frida Kahlo
SOULSKIN - storytelling
by: Zsuzska Juhász and Etelka Kovács - Élményakadémia organization from Hungary
Heartland workshop and easy-to-use-tool
Purpose:
- Reflection on ourselves
- Understanding personal boundaries
- Finding creative energies
- Understanding and cherishing our personal needs
INTRO:
The Soulskin/Sealskin story is derived from a northern myth that puts the origins of humans in the sea and supposes that before we were people, we were seals. One of these creatures comes ashore to ease the loneliness of a man, lives with him for seven years and mothers his child, but as her soul, extracted from its natural element, begins to wither, she is compelled to return to the sea. Parting from her son, Ooruk, is heartbreaking. The myth of losing one’s pelt or of it being stolen speaks deeply to the more subtle position of so many women in being divested of their time, resources and creative energy in the service of psychic support of others. The world, like the man in the story, ‘is lonely for comfort, and for the hips and breasts of women,’ and that it is the work of women to ‘stop running the milk train’ and turn themselves towards home

MY TRUTH IS? - coaching
by: Ako Kārlis Cekulis - CentrsMARTA organization from Latvia
Heartland workshop and easy-to-use-tool
Purpose:
- This activity is a good starting point to start to address, accept, and talk about ourselves and our feelings.
- To vent our feelings.
INTRO:
Sharing our emotions reduces stress while also making us feel closer to others with whom we are sharing, thus providing a sense of belonging. When we open up our inner selves and people respond with sympathy, we feel seen, understood, and supported.
TELL YOUR STORY
by: Annamária Kádár - from Romania
INTRO:
Do we chase after pleasures, accept the destiny of life, or perhaps recall the good old days? Are we really complaining about failures and missed opportunities, are we fighting to achieve our goals?
According to the revolutionary new time perspective method, our relationship with time has a decisive influence on our lives. If we shift our mental focus from the past to the present, and from negative events to positive ones, we can live a more balanced and fulfilling life and we can tell a positive story about our life.
The father of the famous Stanford prison experiments, social psychologist Philip Zimbardo and his colleague Rosemary Sword, based on their research and examples from real life, demonstrate how our time perspectives influence our stress management, parenting style, and our storytelling style.
By filling out the questionnaire, we will find out in which area we need to change and how we can transform our perspective on life through storytelling.
